Scientists became interested in proanthocyanidins and
resveratrol in the early 1990s when its presence was discovered in red
wine leading to speculations that it might explain the so-called "French
Paradox" - low heart disease rates among the French who consume high-fat
diets and drink a lot of red wine. Scientific interest in these two compounds
has continued to grow since then as studies have shown they may have a host of
Proanthocyanidins (PAs), are phytochemicals,
which are non-nutritive plant chemicals that have protective properties. PAs are very powerful immune supportive
antioxidants that remove harmful free oxygen radicals from cells. Studies
indicate that antioxidant power of PAs is 20 times higher than that of vitamin
C and 50 times higher than vitamin E. These findings do not make PAs
better antioxidants than vitamins C and E and does not mean they replace them.
Instead they highlight the importance of a variety of antioxidant types. The
role of PAs should not be underestimated, as research further suggests that
these compounds are beneficial in many areas of health because of their ability
to bond with collagen, promoting youthful skin, cell health, elasticity, and
flexibility. Other studies have shown that PAs help protect the body from UV
rays damage, improve flexibility in joints, arteries, and body tissues such as
the heart, and improve blood circulation by strengthening capillaries,
arteries, and veins.
Resveratrol is also a phytochemical, or
non-nutritive plant chemical that has protective properties. Resveratrol is most known for its strong immune supportive
antioxidant properties. Studies have also shown links to healthy
cholesterol and blood pressure levels. It has been tagged the antiaging
compound after animal studies suggested an increased lifespan and brain cell
protection. Coupled with additional animal studies that show potential
protective influences on joint cartilage and anti-inflammatory influences,
resveratrol remains a strong candidate for further study!

SHOP SMART: Perhaps the most common question I am asked is: “How do we select the ingredients that go in our products?” If I had to answer in one sentence, it would be: “We do our best to apply science to nature”. The release of data from scientific studies regarding the ingredients used in dietary supplements has exploded over the past 10 years. This data, coupled with input from doctors, and peer review literature help us determine the value of each ingredient in regards to the overall product formula.
While it is understood that the results from these studies represent only those study participants, and cannot be expected for everyone, their value is considered.
We are proponents of and encourage everyone to be an active participant in their health care. The famous quote from Benjamin Franklin is just as, if not more applicable today as it was over 200 years ago… “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
As you, with guidance from your health care provider, decide on the vitamins and dietary supplements that would be beneficiary for you, we hope that your selections include OneLifeUSA products.
