This deficiency is progressively being linked to an increase in risk for a variety of health issues. Vitamin D is needed for the regulation of calcium, to support healthy bones and teeth and for its protective effects with regards to overall health. It is naturally present in only a few foods (salmon, eggs, cod liver oil), added to others (fortified milk), and available as a dietary supplement. It is also produced when skin is directly exposed to sunlight. A blood test that measures your amount of vitamin D is the only way to know if you're getting enough vitamin D. If you are Vitamin D deficient, supplements are often recommended. The most commonly recommended form of Vitamin D is D3. Chewing a tablet is often preferred because it can be better and faster absorbed as compared to swallowing it in pill form. Combining a bit of Vitamin K2, with Vitamin D helps calcium deposit in bones (a good thing) and not in soft tissues, like veins, arteries or skin (not a good thing). Additionally, Vitamin K2 (Mk7) is the most bio-available form of Vitamin K and is considered by many to be the most active form of Vitamin K in the body. Before taking this or any over-the-counter product, it is always advisable to discuss its use with your primary care professional.
